The name on the label is not his own.

The estate is named after an elder — Oreste Stefano. The man who works the vines today, alone, is called Clemente.

The vines were planted in 1953. Seventy-three years they have held this land, deep roots, modest yields. The cellar itself fits into three small rooms — no more.

Clemente does everything on his own. The winter pruning alone takes him two full weeks. One selected vine shoot, another cut — each choice commits the vine for the coming year, sometimes for the next two.

While he works, alone in the rows, he listens to music. Pavarotti, often.

“I am alone, so it keeps me company. Music is essential.”

In the cellar, a tool he simply calls “the thief” allows him to draw a little wine directly from the barrel, without opening it. A future reserve ages there, patient — it will not be released before 2029.

He was asked one day if he would do anything else with his life, if he had the opportunity.

“No, what I already do is enough for me.”

It is not resignation. Between the vineyard and the cellar, the job already takes every hour he has to give — and he does not seem to want any others.

One day, perhaps, a child will grow up in this cellar just as he himself grew up in the shadow of the name Oreste Stefano. In the meantime, it is still Clemente, alone, with Pavarotti for company.
